What Is Pre-Prosthetic Dental Surgery?
Pre-prosthetic surgery is a key step in preparing for dental implants, ensuring your jawbone and surrounding tissue are ready for proper implant placement. If there are issues with bone structure or excess tissue, this procedure reshapes or removes the material needed to create a stable foundation. Oral Surgery Associates Gadsden specializes in this procedure for patients in Gadsden and Albertville, AL, helping to ensure a successful dental implant process. Our experienced surgeons, Drs. Cecil Dorsett and Frank E. Orr, focus on tailoring the surgery to your specific needs, addressing any challenges to ensure a smooth process before your dental implants are placed. By making sure your mouth is properly prepared, we help you achieve a successful and lasting result.
How Is Pre-Prosthetic Oral Surgery Performed?
Before planning your pre-prosthetic oral surgery, Dr. Dorsett or Dr. Orr will perform a thorough examination of your teeth and jaw, taking advanced 3D impressions to get the clearest picture of your oral health. Based on the findings, they will develop a personalized treatment plan and explain the steps needed to prepare your mouth for dental implants. Pre-prosthetic dental surgery is usually performed with local anesthesia, and we offer other sedation methods to keep you relaxed and comfortable for your procedure. Your surgeon will make small, precise incisions in the gum tissue to access the bone. From there, they'll trim away any excess gum tissue and place any bone grafts to create ample space for dental implants. Once they're finished, they'll close the incisions with sutures. Before you leave, we'll review all post-surgery care instructions to help ensure a smooth recovery.
What Are the Benefits of Pre-Prosthetic Oral Surgery?

- Ensures a stable foundation for dental implants
- Improves the fit and comfort of implants
- Reduces the risk of complications during implant placement

- Helps create a smoother, faster recovery process
Oral Surgery Associates Gadsden Reviews
Very professional and courteous
Received excellent care in removal of 3 broken capped teeth. Received antibiotic and pain medicine prescription. Going back for removal of stitches.
Dr Dorsett and his staff are excellent. I had a tooth extracted and it went quickly and was done and out in no time.
I had an amazing experience getting my wisdom tooth removed. This was my first time ever having any dental work done (I didn’t even have my first cavity until age 32), so I honestly didn’t know what to expect but they made me feel so comfortable from start to finish. Check in was super easy with no confusion at all. My appointment was at 8:30, I arrived at 8:00, and they actually called me back early. Everything moved quickly and smoothly I was completely done before 8:50! The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the doctor took the time to explain everything, which I really appreciated. The last thing I remember is the assistant saying she was about to give me the medicine, and after that, I don’t remember a thing which made the whole experience even better. Overall, they were absolutely perfect. I highly recommend them to anyone, especially if you’re nervous or don’t know what to expect like I didn’t.
They did an amazing job. I want to say thank you.

Am I A Candidate for Pre-Prosthetic Surgery?
If you are planning for dentures or dental implants and have been told additional preparation is needed, you may be a candidate for pre-prosthetic surgery. Our team often recommends this procedure for patients with bone loss, uneven gum tissue, or discomfort with current dentures. These issues can affect how well restorations fit and function. For patients in Gadsden and Albertville, pre-prosthetic surgery can help create a more stable foundation, supporting improved comfort, fit, and long-term oral function, while allowing future restorations to feel more natural and secure.
